Dallas Ear Institute - Implanted Hearing Devices

At The Dallas Ear Institute, we strongly believe that our patients should have options when considering hearing amplification. We are dedicated to providing the latest technologies to our patients.

There are several types of implantable hearing devices that are available. Bone anchored hearing aids are implantable devices placed through the skin into the skull behind the ear. These devices are primarily used for conductive hearing loss or for single-sided sensorineural hearing loss. Implantable middle-ear devices are designed for patients with mild-to-severe sensorineural hearing loss. These devices allow significant amplification without the negatives of conventional hearing aid devices. Totally implantable middle-ear devices may be particularly attractive to athletes and swimmers in whom water or sweat limit their ability to hear when active. Actors, performers, or any person who desires a completely concealed hearing aid will find totally implantable middle-ear devices an attractive option.

Our program participates in ongoing clinical trials and research projects allowing us to offer current and future technology. Our philosophy is that the decision to recommend an implantable hearing device can only be made by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and a well informed patient or parent.

Cochlear Bone Anchored Hearing System

The Baha System is an alternative hearing device used for patients born without ear canals and for patients with deafness in only one ear.  Bone, like air, can conduct sound vibrations. For people with certain causes of hearing loss, this provides another pathway to perceive sound.

Cochlear Implant Program

The use of cochlear implants for the treatment of severe to profound hearing loss is one of the most revolutionary treatments of our time. The Cochlear Implant Program at the Dallas Ear Institute is one of the largest in the US and includes a comprehensive focus for both children and adults. Our Program participates in ongoing clinical trials and research allowing us to offer current and future technology. Our philosophy is that the decision to recommend a cochlear implant can only be made by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and a well informed patient or parent.
