Pediatric Audiology

The Dallas Ear Institute at Medical City Dallas Children’s Hospital is devoted to diagnosing and treating hearing problems in children. Our audiologists are highly trained and specialized in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric patients with hearing impairments. We perform a comprehensive battery of diagnostic tests to help uncover hearing loss and the potential causes.

Age-appropriate behavioral tests can be performed in the sound booth with earphones. A variety of objective tests including immittance measures, otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), click and tone-burst auditory brainstem response (ABR), and auditory steady state response (ASSR) can be performed to gain information about hearing loss. The utilization of these techniques allows us to determine, as early and as precisely as possible, the extent of a child’s hearing impairment.

Newborn babies that fail hearing screening in the hospital are assessed in our Audiology Center. Often, testing must be performed with mild sedation, and our sedation suite is utilized with our highly trained sedation nurse closely monitoring the child while specialized testing is performed by our audiologists.

Our audiologists provide hearing aid services that include evaluating, fitting, dispensing and caring for hearing aids and frequency-modulation (FM) systems from multiple manufacturers. We maintain a large stock of loaner hearing aids so that children can be amplified while their hearing aids are in for repair.

We look forward to taking care of your child. Our state-of-the-art facilities, highly specialized team of physicians and audiologists, and association with Medical City Dallas Children’s Hospital allows us to be at the forefront of hearing care for children.
