Cochlear Implants in Dallas, Fort Worth and Frisco, TX

The Center for Cochlear Implants at Dallas Ear Institute was established in 1992. We are a multi-disciplinary team who provides the highest level of diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation services in cochlear implantation.

Our team has worked together to guide thousands of patients (ages 6 months to 96 years) and their families through their hearing journey. Our years of collaboration have made us uniquely capable of evaluating the potential rewards, limitations and risks of cochlear implantation for each patient. Our experiences with adult patients, who are capable of communicating their successes as well their ongoing challenges, helps to guide us as we walk families of young children through the decision to obtain a cochlear implant. We have had the privilege of following our patients through various phases of their lives which has taught us firsthand how hearing and technology needs can evolve.

Our team is also recognized as a Center of Excellence for Cochlear Implantation and has participated in over twenty clinical trials to evaluate new technology.

Our center routinely works with devices from all cochlear implant manufacturers, including Advanced Bionics, Cochlear Americas, and MED-EL in an effort to allow our patients to choose the solution that best fits their needs. Our mission is to provide our patients with the technology and knowledge they need to ensure the best lifelong hearing experience.

When Hearing Aids Are Not Enough

Cochlear implants are different from hearing aids. While hearing aids help many people by making sounds louder, hearing aids rely on some remaining healthy sensory cells in the inner ear.

As hearing loss progresses and fewer sensory cells are working in the inner ear, you may reach a point when hearing aids are no longer meeting your needs and a cochlear implant is appropriate. The cochlear implant bypasses the damaged part of the inner ear and communicates directly with the hearing nerve to make sounds louder and clearer.

Signs that hearing aids may not be providing you enough benefit:

      • Do you struggle to hear conversations even in a quiet room?

      • Do you frequently ask people to repeat themselves?

      • Do you depend on a loved one or lip-reading to understand a conversation?

      • Do you avoid social situations because you cannot understand what is being said?

      • Are you exhausted at the end of the day from trying to hear and communicate?

      • Is it hard for you to talk on the phone?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, take the next step to learn if a Cochlear Implant Evaluation is the right option for you.
